What is Reflexology
Reflexology foot massage is a great complementary therapy and should not be confused with a massage. It focuses on reflex points on the feet, hands, ears, and face that correspond to every organ, gland, and part of the body. Using different manual techniques of gentle alternating pressure it may promote deep relaxation throughout the nervous system. This allows the body to create balance and assist the body systems to function more efficiently, you can see reflexology points in image.
Reflexology may be used as a type of preventative maintenance of the body.
Reflexology operates under the premise that a map of the body is reflected on the feet or hands. These reflexes are capable of indirectly influencing the internal blood flow and function of the organs, body systems and associated structures, so that bio-energetic and nerve pathways may be unblocked and optimized to improve our overall well-being.
Reflexology may treat conditions via the reflexes when it is not possible to treat them directly. It is also capable of producing profound and deep relaxation both physically and mentally, making it a strong pain manager and reliever.
Benefits of Reflexology
What to Expect?
A Reflexology session typically begins before your appointment by filling out an intake form. Always fill out the form honestly and to the best of your knowledge because this allows the reflexologist to better serve you. Leaving out any conditions or ailments is only a disservice to you as there are reflexes that can be targeted during your service that may alleviate your concerns.
You will be invited into a quiet and safe space where you can find comfort to relax and heal. A session is typically 60 minutes but may be offered in 30 or 90 min increments. You will only be removing your socks and shoes and otherwise be staying fully dressed. This makes the sessions ideal as you may have an injury or poor range of motion making it difficult to undress easily. After the session your reflexologist can discuss the session and answer any questions you may have.
Regular monthly sessions are ideal to maintain balance in the body and it may help the body to function more efficiently. When you have a specific ailment that you are trying to alleviate it is common to come in more frequently like weekly or bi-weekly until the symptom has subsided. It is important to remember that everyone heals differently and it all depends on you and your body on how long it may take for pain or dis-ease to subside.
